Firmhold

How we write our guides

Most content about compulsive porn use cites nothing. Ours is written under one rule: nothing is claimed unless it can be sourced. This page explains who writes it, how, and what to do if we get something wrong.

Who writes these pages

Firmhold is a small, independent product. The guides and comparisons are written and edited by the person who builds it. They are not named, for the same reason most of the people who use Firmhold would rather not be: privacy around this subject is something we take seriously, not something we ask of our users alone.

None of these pages is written or reviewed by a clinician, and we do not present them as if they were. They are practical guides built on published research and clinical sources. Where something needs a professional, the page says so.

How claims are sourced

Every factual claim on a guide is listed in its Sources section. Before a source is cited, we check three things: that it exists, that it actually says what the page implies it says, and whether the people behind it have a conflict of interest that a reader would want to know about.

We say when evidence is limited. Research that comes from other areas, such as relapse prevention in substance use, is labelled as such rather than presented as a finding about porn. Clinical models from therapy practice are called models, not research. We do not repeat popular claims, such as fixed recovery timelines or brain-damage scare stories, that the evidence does not support.

We never publish statistics about our own users or their results unless our own data supports them.

How comparisons are written

We make Firmhold, so every comparison page is written by a competitor of the products it covers. We handle that in three ways. Every fact about another product comes from that product's own published material, such as its pricing page, its app store listing or its own feature pages, with the date we checked it. Each comparison says plainly when another product is the better fit. And we re-check competitor facts and correct them when they change.

We are not affiliated with any product we compare, we use no affiliate links, and no company pays to be included or to be described in a particular way.

What the dates mean

“Published” is when a page first went live. “Last reviewed” moves only when the substance of the page changed and its facts were checked again. It does not move for a redesign or a wording tweak, because that would claim a review that never happened.

Corrections

If you find a mistake, a broken source or a competitor fact that has changed, email support@firmhold.app. A real person reads every message. When we correct a factual error, we fix the page and update its review date.

For example, in October 2026 we found that Covenant Eyes had added a 7-day free trial, which our comparison pages still said it did not offer. We corrected all five pages that mentioned it the same day.

What we sell

Firmhold is a pattern tracker. Logging, the calendar, the daily risk status and the panic button are free, and the full pattern breakdown is paid. Our guides keep Firmhold to a short section, usually near the end, and are written to be useful to someone who never signs up. Every guide is listed in the guides index.
